About Me

My real name is Richard Terry. I am a programmer, CTO, web developer and Linux sysadmin, specialising in all things Python and Django for around 15 years. If that sounds like something that might be useful, you can hire me.

This website is home to my tech blog, where I post about things related to tech which interest me, and my personal diary where I sometimes ramble on about what I've been up to recently.

I studied Computer Science at Bath University, and since graduating in 2004 I've been building websites for clients, consulting and developing commercial software. I am also working on several open source projects, some of which are in my projects section.

Although born in Kent (in the UK), I have lived in Bath and Cornwall, and currently live in Cheltenham with my wife, two children, and our two cats. When I'm not working on the computer, I'm still often sat at it - surfing the information superhighway, spodding, or complaining about the spam. I used to play quite a few musical instruments, but these days it's just a bit of piano and violin when I get time.

Sport is not my thing, assuming Quake and Grand Theft Auto aren't classified as sports. I practice archery, but that is a vocation. I don't drink, I don't smoke and I don't go clubbing, so if any of those things are important to you I'm probably quite boring. However, I do enjoy travelling - I have been to Yugoslavia, Italy, Spain, France, the USA (New York, California, Nevada and Hawaii), South Africa, Geneva, the Canary Islands, Amsterdam, Thailand, Chile, Argentina, Cuba, Dubai, Australia, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, and Canada, and hope to visit many more in the not-too-distant future.

I build my own computers and enjoy watching films. I very rarely use eBay, and post on reddit even less frequently. I have an android mobile phone and an assortment of cheap-yet-manly power tools. I don't like spiders, but I do like chocolate. Estoy aprendiendo español, pero I kinda suck. I don't mind the idea of DRM, just that in practice it stops me doing what I want with something I have paid for. I read Sluggy and Scary Go Round. I get my bread from Sainsbury's, and pretty much everything else from Amazon. Ever since I paid a stranger to cut my eyes open and burn them with lasers, I have not needed to wear glasses. I have a Swiss army knife. I am not bald.

Excellent. If you want to know more about me, you can now go and read the rest of my site.
